Sewing Machine Cross Stitch

Hello, and welcome. Today I am posting a cross stitch that I completed for my mom. She is an avid sewing person, and has been for as long as I can remember. I however, failed to pick up sewing bug as a younger person. But Cross Stitch, now that is something I can do!

I decided to make this for my mom as a Christmas present. From my heart, a special gift that took time, effort, and thought. I also wanted to make this gift something that would be meaningful to her.

I start by cutting Cross Stitch fabric into a 12×12 square. Then start stitching at the very centre of my square, working outwards.

Keep in mind I am a novice at Cross Stitch, and although I have done it for many years it is still a hobby for me. One that I love, find peaceful, and completely relaxing! My Cross Stitch is full of imperfections, and I am perfectly okay with that.

I like to complete the inner sections of any Cross Stitch I do first, working outward. It is just my preference to help keep me organized. I also find it so satisfying to see the design come together.

One thing about Cross Stitch is it doesn't take a lot of space. One doesn't need a lot of supplies for this type of hobby. The floss is the biggest purchase, but can easily be organized, and contained. I find purchasing floss is never a waste as it can be used for lots of other projects in the future! I still use floss that I had purchased many years ago when I first started stitching.

I worked around the ivy wreath going clockwise so I didn’t miscount in my stitching. I'm not sure if I go clockwise because I'm left-handed? But regardless, I always tend to go clockwise : )

I love the hand crank on the sewing machine. Imagine having to use this machine back in the day compared to today's newer, fancier models!

When it came to framing my Cross Stitch I had a clear vision of how I wanted it to look before I went to the framer. I decided I wanted a clean look because the star of this project should be the Cross Stitch itself, not an ornate frame. I have to say that this vision really helped me stay focused when I was faced with all the tempting choices available!

Here is a closer look at my finished, and framed Cross Stitch. I think the ivy wreath really makes this Cross Stitch. I love how the thread (ivy) starts at the needle and completely surrounds the sewing machine! This was such a relaxing Cross Stitch, and not particularly difficult. Making it the perfect winter project!

Until next time, happy crafting.

Pattern Credit: I purchased this pattern many years ago. It is a set of 4 which included a sewing machine (my choice here), thimble, scissors, and an iron. The originating Cross Stitch Pattern credit goes to No 11 Creation Point de Croix – Juillet/Aout 2011. This is a wonderful company that has fabulous patterns you can purchase.

This particular set was found at www.creationpointdecroix.com
